What Remains Hidden
A series of mixed media collages mounted on paper, framed.
Large wall collages, which I call “texture matrices,” are foundational to my current practice. I build the texture matrix from paper, tape, and other recycled materials, then make multiple rubbings from the matrix.
For this series, I created many small rubbings from the same texture matrix using different colors of wax pastel and types of paper. Small groups of rubbings end up sharing design elements from the same area of the matrix, and these areas of intersection become the starting points for the What Remains Hidden collages.
The collages are mounted on white archival paper, and some include materials such as washi tape, fiberglass screen, and thread. All of the pieces measure approximately 35 x 27 inches when framed. Numbers 1-14 in the series come from Texture Matrix #3.
